Sometimes Canadians forget that 'Small Towns' can be the home of 'Big Ideas'

Hosted by CanHist & sponsored by multiple small-town organizations in Dufferin County, "Small Town Big Ideas" is a Speakers Series welcoming some of Canada's most provocative & innovative thinkers to Shelburne, Ontario.

At CanHist, we do history differently!

Our Last Event was a Big Hit!

"An Afternoon with Antonio Michael Downing"!

April 25th, 2026 | 2-4pm | Tickets $20 | Location: MoD

Join us for "An Afternoon with Antonio Michael Downing", one of Canada's most powerful new authors. You will know him from Saturday afternoons on CBC Radio, his rich storytelling shines through in his debut novel "Black Cherokee".

This event will be moderated by new Shelburne Public Library, CEO, Shannon McGrady at the MoD!

Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Shelburne Public Library, Shannon McGrady thoroughly enjoys connecting with the community whether it's sharing her love of literature, discussing BIG ideas, or building belonging. One of the highlights of her career is meeting authors and she is thrilled to have the opportunity to host Antonio Michael Downing for CanHist; a BIG name for our small town.

Keep an eye out for exciting updates on our upcoming 2026 season!
