Defining Moments Canada

Exploring the moments that shape Canada’s evolving story.

Defining Moments Canada / Moments déterminants Canada is a national bilingual digital heritage initiative of CanHist.

Through national bilingual digital heritage projects, DMC brings together stories, perspectives and defining moments from across the country — helping Canadians explore where we have been, how we have changed, and what our shared histories can tell us about who we are becoming.

Explore Chris Hadfield

Led by CanHist.ca in partnership with MCYU, with support from national partners in education, science, and public history. OOTW25 is funded in part by the Government of Canada, through Canadian Heritage.

The history of a nation is not only in the parliaments and battlefields but in what the people say to each other on fair-days and high days, and in how they farm, and quarrel and go on pilgrimage.

— W.B. Yeats, quoted in Michael MacMahon

History isn’t just found in textbooks or timelines.

It is something we experience, share, and carry forward together.

At CanHist, we bring Canada’s stories to life through tours, learning programs, and national projects that connect past milestones with future possibilities.

We do history differently — making it engaging, meaningful, and unforgettable.
