Canada in Space StoryMaps

Maps can tell stories too — especially when they trace Canada’s journey into space.

Discover Canada’s Story in Space

Out of This World 25 is partnering with ESRI Canada and McMaster Children and Youth University (MCYU) to develop interactive StoryMaps that bring Canada’s space history to life.

Using digital mapping, images, and multimedia storytelling, these experiences will help visitors explore the missions, technologies, and discoveries that shaped Canada’s role in space exploration.

As the OOTW25 project grows, these StoryMaps will continue to expand — connecting Canada’s past achievements in space with the missions and milestones still to come.

Every mission leaves a trail of discovery across Earth and space.

Mapping Canada’s Journey in Space

Canada’s contributions to space exploration stretch across decades of innovation, international collaboration, and scientific discovery.

Through interactive StoryMaps developed with ESRI technology, visitors will be able to explore major milestones such as:

  • Chris Hadfield’s historic 2001 mission
  • The installation of Canadarm2
  • Canada’s role aboard the International Space Station
  • The upcoming Artemis II mission

These interactive maps combine geography, history, and storytelling to help Canadians explore the connections between people, places, and discoveries in space.

Explore Canadian Space History

New tools for storytelling are helping Canadians explore history in entirely new ways.

Exploring Space Through StoryMaps

ESRI is a global leader in geographic information systems (GIS) and digital mapping technology.

Through this partnership, Out of This World 25 will use StoryMaps to create immersive learning experiences that combine maps, images, video, and narrative storytelling.

These digital tools allow students, educators, and space enthusiasts to explore Canada’s space story in ways that are interactive, visual, and engaging.
